Personal Skills

Throughout my life I have always aspired to learn as much as I feasibly can out of whatever environment I am in either work / education, this will highlight some of those skills I have aquired.

IT Support

I like working in IT support because it is very simply solving puzzle. I rather enjoy puzzles, some of my favorite games are sudoku & chess, all very deterministic puzzles. I was working on a minor that I gave up on at University, for UX Design, which required quite a few Comp Sci classes, this is where I learned a few basics of HTML, Javascript, Python, & C+. Most of the studies were centered around HTML & Python.
When I was a kid I would create games in the Warcraft III Sandbox (World Editor) which is where MOBA games originate (DOTA), there was some guided code for art effects & events & triggered events. This is where I first learned some functions within coding such as if statements & for-loops. Because of this when I went into Comp Sci classes at university I was predisposed to some of the terminology & functions that spans all languages.
As a result of my background with coding, switch CLI / config’s while working in a NOC has been rather intuitive with the exceptions of Vlans which took quite some time to learn.

Psychology

I completed my BS in Psychology at University. Because my degree is so separated from my career field most people would assume that there is no overlap or relation. I would argue otherwise in that I feel as though I have quite a few skills from my degree that aid my in every day tasks. First argument would be the deductive reasoning that is required from the scientific method / practices required to prove something in a repeatable manner, this has taught me to be extremely methodical. Secondly I would argue that I apply my degree applies when communicating with peers / customers & dispatch technicians in that the English language can be interrupted in many different ways, and so I need to adjust my communication according to my audience. For example I don’t always need to explain how a Remote access works to a customer, but might need to with a dispatch technician when local access is needed via remote desktop. Lastly I would argue that my degree helps me with working in a team environments, and social groups. Knowing how and when to lead a group to complete a task or when to take a more of an assistant role.

Design

In hopes of not repeating myself to boring my audience but again I was working towards a UX minor in University that required some design classes. I take most of my design inspiration from 3 elements. First and foremost, Deter Rams 10 Design principles of good design, primarily the 10th principle; good design is as little design as possible. I appreciate a simple design, always placing function over form. Secondly my design style is inspired from the Golden Rule, which is strongly exhibited in my design of my aquariums. Part of the reason I have a page dedicated to my aquariums is to illustrate some of my design work. Lastly I take a lot of inspiration from the natural world. Rule of Odd numbers is more aesthetically pleasing because in the natural world you rarely see even numbers; 3 leaf clovers, pedals on flowers, Green star polyps, Pulsing xenia, Fibonacci sequence and many more.
